His Excellency Monsignor Antoine KAMBANDA was born in Nyamata (Archdiocese of Kigali) on 10/11/1958, baptized on 27/11/1958 and ordained priest by his holiness Pope John Paul II on 08/09/1990, he 59 years old.
He did his primary school in Burundi and Uganda, for high school he went after a few years in Kenya. He completed his theological studies at the Major Seminary of Nyakibanda in the Diocese of Butare.
He was ordained a priest on 08 September 1990 by the blessed Pope John Paul II at Mbare in the Diocese of Kabgayi on the occasion of his pastoral visit to Rwanda.
He began his priestly ministry at the minor seminary of Ndera, as professor and prefect of studies. He then held the following positions:
From 1993 to 1999, he continued his studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University of Rome, where he obtained a PhD in Moral Theology.
From 1999 to 2005, he assumed the responsibilities of Director of Diocesan Caritas in the Archdiocese of Kigali and Spiritual Director at the Major Seminary in Rutongo.
From 2005 to 2006 he was appointed Rector of the Kabgayi Major Seminary.
From 2006 to 2013 he was appointed Rector of the Major Seminary of Nyakibanda, in Butare.
On 07/05/2013 he was appointed 4th bishop of Kibungo by his holiness Pope Francis and inducted on 20 July 2013.
His motto is “Ut vitam habeant” (“Let them have life” (Jn 10:10).
